Alice Laverne Carter

Alice Laverne Carter, age 92, of Ball Ground, Georgia, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Milton Senior Living in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Born on July 13, 1933, in Canton, Georgia, to Dillard “Doc” White and Wynelle White, Laverne was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County. For thirty years she worked as a lunchroom cook at Macedonia Elementary School, where her warm smile and kind spirit touched generations of students. She was a woman of deep compassion and quiet strength, known above all for the loving care she gave to her family. She devoted herself to nursing her first husband, Brooke Greene, through his battle with cancer; her twin sister, Marion Blanton; her father, Doc White, who suffered from Parkinson’s disease; her mother, Wynelle White; and her cousin, Judy Strawn.

In addition to her parents, Laverne was preceded in death by her first husband, Brooke Greene; her second husband, Millard Carter; her step-daughter, Pam Gibbs; her twin sister, Marion Blanton; her sister, Shirley Bishop; and her brother, Melvin White.

She is survived by her sons, Tony (Jan) Greene of Canton and Terry (Sheila) Greene of Ball Ground; her grandchildren, Derek Greene, Jay Greene, and Amy (Justin) Howell; and her great-grandchildren, Brooke Howell, Laura Jean Howell, and Nolan Howell. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Beverly Carter; her step-daughter, Shelia (Dan) Burns; her step son-in-law, Dwayne Gibbs; her step-grandchildren, Danielle Gibbs, Ashley (Matt) Hughes, and Stephanie (Samuel) Rodriguez; and her step great-grandchildren, Ava Rodriguez and Dylan Rodriguez, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory. Laverne will be remembered for her loving heart, her unwavering devotion to family, and the countless quiet acts of kindness that defined her life.
