Alice Hildegard Becker

Alice Hildegard Becker, age 91, of Fowler, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at University of Michigan Health – Carson in Carson City, surrounded by her family.

Born on February 7, 1935, in Westphalia, Michigan, Alice was the daughter of John and Alvina (Arens) Martin. She graduated from high school in Westphalia and later married James Francis Becker on April 27, 1955, in her hometown. Together for more than 69 years until James’s passing on August 10, 2024, they raised eight children in a home filled with love, devotion, and happiness.

A skilled homemaker, Alice gardened and canned with care, and her dinner rolls, crunch bars, and no-bake fudge cookies were beloved by all. She found great joy at the family cottage on Chippewa Lake, where she enjoyed pontoon rides, fishing, campfires, listening to the loons, and visiting with neighbors. To her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was known for her warm hugs and the familiar one-dollar bill she always slipped into their hands. Selfless and generous, Alice placed everyone else first and met life’s demands without complaint.

A longtime member of Most Holy Trinity Church in Fowler, Alice was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. She prayed the rosary faithfully and offered up her pain and suffering, even in her final days. Her deepest daily prayer was to outlive her special son Mike, if only by a minute. Exactly two weeks after his passing, she went to join him in their heavenly home.

Alice is survived by her children Duane (Sarah) Becker, Neal (Sharon) Becker, Lori (Don) Gilbert, Jan (Roy) Burnham, Amy (Terry) Schafer, and Kay (John) Gutierrez; her sister Catherine Thelen; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Gerard (Lori) Becker and William Thoma; sister-in-law Georgene Thelen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James, her children Brian and Michael Becker, and her siblings and extended family members.

Her family will miss her deeply. She was a beautiful soul, inside and out, leaving shoes that will be very hard to fill.
