Alice Elizabeth Sykes, born on January 23, 1946, in Bluefield, West Virginia, passed away on March 7, 2026, at her home in Lake Butler, Florida. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
Alice dedicated more than twenty years as store manager for Gate, where her steadfast commitment and strong leadership inspired those around her. Demonstrating remarkable tenacity, she returned to school at the age of thirty-eight and earned her high school diploma in 1984, showing that it is never too late to pursue one’s goals.
She was an unselfish matriarch who took charge in every situation and faced every obstacle with determination. Deeply devoted to her family, Alice placed their care above all else. Her warmth and nurturing spirit created a loving home that welcomed everyone who entered.
Alice found great joy in gardening, where her green thumb allowed her to grow almost anything. She also expressed her creativity through arts and crafts and woodworking, taking pride in traditional, old-time ways that infused her daily life with authenticity.
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Terrell; her grandchildren, Stephen and Christine McSpadden and their children Kersey, Kelsey, and Christopher McSpadden; Angelina Terrell (Chris Solomon) and their children Autianna Terrell, Kayeli, Graceleigh, Kingston Solomon, Gabrielle Sweetman, and Tyler Sweetman; and her brother, Joseph Quesenberry. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Anna Quesenberry, and her sisters, Wanda Hardey and Tammy Horne.
