Des Moines, IA
Alice Allsteadt, born on August 16, 1934, to Randolph D. and Eldra S. Thomas, passed away in Des Moines. She lived most of her life in Iowa, residing in Des Moines, Davenport, and Cedar Rapids, before retiring to Tampa, Florida, and later returning to Des Moines to be near her family.
Over the years Alice held several positions, beginning as a hostess at Bishop’s Buffet in Merle Hay Mall and concluding her career as office manager for the Parent Training and Information Center of Iowa in Des Moines. She found her greatest joy in her family. She cherished large holiday gatherings filled with good meals and shared time together, and she took deep pride in her children and grandchildren, faithfully attending their birthday celebrations, graduations, and weddings.
Alice is survived by her daughters Joy Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Pam (John) Burns of Johnston, and Gayla (Randy) Beers of West Des Moines; her son Ronald J. Allsteadt of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Matt (Christina) Johnson, Kara (Mike) Goodrich, Kristie Keener, Conner Beers, Callie (Michael) Bell, Courtney Campbell, Maelynn Allsteadt, and Sidney Allsteadt; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her sons Paul Watts and Randy J. Allsteadt and her son-in-law Steve Johnson.
She also treasured winter months spent in Florida, walking the beach and enjoying the sun. Her family remains grateful for the lasting example she set of the importance of staying close, supporting one another through both good times and difficult ones.
