Alfredo Navarro ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Superior Funeral Home on Mar. 2, 2026.Alfredo "Fred" Navarro, 90, of San Diego CA, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026.Fred was born on October 1, 1935, in Superior AZ to Tony and Hortencia Navarro. He was married to Sally (Brand) Navarro in 1962 and over the years, they made their home in both Southern California and Arizona.While attending Superior High School, Fred was an accomplished athlete in baseball, basketball, football (quarterback), and served as Student Council Vice President and Boy's State Treasurer. After earning a degree in Education from the University of Arizona at Tucson, he began teaching and coaching sports in Tombstone AZ. This was followed by two years of service in the US Army. For the 1962-63 school year, Fred was recruited for a teaching position in La Puente CA, where he met and married Sally. They soon moved to "the coast," which was Fred's dream. There, he obtained an advanced degree in Counseling from San Diego State University and continued working as a teacher and counselor at both San Clemente and Dana Hills High Schools.As a teacher, Fred was known for being a role model for encouraging Hispanic students to stay in school and go to college. He even hosted foreign exchange students. Fred was formally recognized in 1987 by the Irvine Council of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and was named an Outstanding Hispanic Educator of Orange County, California. Additionally in 2013, Fred was recognized as an outstanding alumni and inducted into The Superior High School Panthers Hall of Fame.Fred was a devoted family man, coached Little League Baseball, and an avid college PAC10/12 Conference fan. Bear Down Wildcats! He loved jazz music, was a big band aficionado, danced up a storm with his wife, and attended many jazz festivals. Fred also enjoyed travelling, which included trips to Mexico, Hawaii, Europe and cruising the Amazon River. Taken all together… Fred fulfilled his dreams!Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Hortencia Navarro, and also by his brother, Tony. He is survived by his wife, Sally; their two children, Randall and Lorelei; daughter-in-law Kelly; and grandchildren, Aaron and Briana.Services for Alfredo A. Navarro are entrusted to the Superior Funeral Home in Superior, Arizona.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
