Preserve forever →Alexandra (Aleka) Tsianos
Toronto, ON
Aleka Tsianos was a beloved mother to Terry and Olga, a devoted grandmother to Alexandra (Lex) and Amanda, and a great-grandmother to Kalisto. She was also cherished by the dog she “never” wanted, Tucker, known affectionately as “koulouri mou.” A caring sister to Dafnoula, Mihali, Andrea, Voula, and Fotini, Aleka remained deeply connected to her parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins despite the distance that separated them. Her family, both by blood and by choice, stayed at the heart of her life.
Born in Greece, Aleka showed remarkable courage as the first in her family to immigrate to Canada in search of new opportunities. There she met her husband, Costa, with whom she shared children, years of joy, and prosperity. Strong-willed and independent well ahead of her time, she forged her own path with determination, love, and resolve, creating brighter possibilities for those who followed.
For decades Aleka devoted herself to caring for her community at the Hellenic Home. Whether offering rides to the supermarket or doctor’s appointments, performing morning wellness checks, preparing meals, or helping with any task at hand, she expressed her love through constant acts of service. In her final years, as progressive dementia took hold, she received the same compassionate care she had given others, supported by dedicated caregivers at Nesbitt Lodge and surrounded by the patience and tenderness of her children and family.
Music and dance remained her refuge. Whenever Greek music played, Aleka danced with her whole heart, even in her later years when she moved from her chair. Her courage, wonderfully twisted sense of humour, and ability to find a moment to “glenti” endured until the end. She will be deeply missed, her memory carried forward in the rhythms she loved and the countless acts of care she offered throughout her life.
