Alesandra “Sandy” Schmidt Woodhouse, age 90, of Tiverton, Rhode Island, passed away on March 5, 2026.
She was the devoted wife of the late Caleb Randall Woodhouse, sharing 20 years of marriage together before his passing in 2020.
Born in Suffield, Connecticut, on October 11, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph Schmidt Jr. and Madge (McCoy) Schmidt.
Alesandra was a highly educated and dedicated professional. She graduated from Brown University - Pembroke ‘57 BA, American School of Classics Athens ‘59 Masters, and Bryn Mawr ‘67, Department of Classics PhD. She dedicated her career to working as a research librarian at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She lived in Suffield, Connecticut for much of her adult life, caring for and living with her mother for many years.
A lifelong academic, her passions included exploring new sites, reading poetry, painting watercolors, and showing her appreciation with kindness with grace. Her twinkle of eye and humor lit up a room. She was a flutist earlier in her life and remained deeply passionate about the classics. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her stepson, Erik Woodhouse, and his wife Kim of Oakland, California; her stepdaughter, Ingeborg Woodhouse, and her husband Fred; her brother-in-law Hilary G. Woodhouse and his wife Helen of Little Compton, RI; and three step-grandchildren, Liam, Oni, and Sam.
A special tribute to Brookdale Sakonnet Bay Assisted Living for their dedication to her care and well being.
A memorial service for Sandy will be held at Saint Andrews By the Sea Episcopal Church in Little Compton on Friday, April 10th at 10:30AM.
