West Bountiful, UT
Alean Smith Foster, 88, from West Bountiful, Utah, passed away Sunday, March 15th surrounded by family and friends.
Alean was born June 19th, 1937 in Provo, Utah, to Russell and Grace Harding Smith. She was the first born child followed by a brother, Monte and sisters Paulene (Warren) Gloria Peterson and Larna Burgess.
She married the apple of her eye, Don “Stoney” Foster April 6,1956 in SLC, Utah. It was a blessed mariage of 55 years when Don passed in 2011.
Alean was the proud mother of 5 children-Kayla McCoard (Bart), Jody Bringhurst (Scott), Rex Foster (Sonja), Kyle Foster (Kelly), and Rusty Foster (Tess). She said many times she really had 10 kids as the spouses were her kids, too.
Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved her 18 grandchildren, their 15 spouses and 27 great grandchildren. Then add in the many nices and nephews. Time spent with them was her happiest. She smiled big and had tremendous love for them all. Her favorite time was big, loud family gatherings at her house with the great grandkids playing and having a good time with cousins.
After graduating Provo High School, Alean attended Heneger Business College in SLC where she excelled at typing and shorthand. Throughout her 88 years, Alean wore many hats. ZCMI receptionist, Car Hop (where she met Don), Cub Scout Leader, Girl's softball coach, Fellers, Co-founder of the West Bountiful Little League, Bountiful Jeep Posse Jeepettes, Bountiful High School Head Lunch Cook and JPenney catalog specialist just to name a few.
Homemaking was her forte. She could cook, bake, sew, quilt, craft, garden, make candy, and do it all with expertise. She didn't shy away from trying something new. She canned fruits, vegetables and wild game. Her pantry was huge and full of glass jars lined up with the hard work.
She and Don ran Bear River Service in the Uinta Mountains for several years, where they cooked meals and baked many delicious treats including her famous Cinnamon Rolls. Chili was a favorite, also huge burgers with handmade fries. Definitely not your typical small town in the middle of nowhere offerings. Orders for Chili and Cinnamon Rolls would come from far and near.
The Uinta Mountains held a special place in her heart so she and Don bought property where they spent time with each other as well as family and friends. Everyone was welcome and they were exceptional hosts. Food was always cooking, lots of storytelling, tons of jokes, laughter and fun was had by all. It is truly a special place that meant so much to everyone.
A service for Alean will be held Saturday, March 21st at the the West Bountiful 8th Ward, 311 N. 800 W. West Bountiful, Utah. There will be a viewing from 10:00 to 12:00 with the funeral following. Internment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery 2224 S. 200 W. Bountiful.
The Family would like to send a special thanks to the many special friends in her life that would stop by to visit, bring her sweet treats and make phone calls to show how much they cared.
And, so much heartfelt appreciation to those that provided friendship, care and comfort to Mom including Savannah Miller, Jayni Tubbs, Abby Davis, AnaMaria Huayna and Helen Seeley. She was blessed by all of you.
