Alberta Elder ObituaryPublished by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 17, 2026.Lebanon - Lebanon NH - Alberta Elder, 104, passed away on March 12, 2025, at her home in Lebanon NH, surrounded by the ladies who assisted her over the last several years. Pam, Jessica, Susan, Lindsey, Kate lyn, Beth, Sarah, Azzie and her hairdresser of 30 years, Kathy. Alberta fondly referred to these ladies as her family. The family wishes to extend a very heartfelt thank you to Fr. James Cuddy, who visited Alberta in her final hours and brought a sense of peace to all of us who were there with her. Alberta was born in Detroit, graduated from St. Mary Academy in Monroe, Michigan and received a Bachelor of Science from Marygrove College. In the 1960s, after years of civic and church service in communities from New York to New Jersey to Michigan to California, Alberta joined Blue Shield of California. She was appointed the first, and for many years, the only hearing officer for Social Security's Medicare program in California. After retiring, she continued her work as a volunteer, playing a key role in the Beleveder-Tiburon Landmarks Society's work to restore the China Cabin and preserve the beautiful lands surrounding Old St. Hilary's Church in Tiburon, California.In 1994, Alberta and her beloved husband, Bud Elder, moved to the college community of Hanover NH, drawn back to Bud's Alma mater of Dartmouth College. She has continued to live in the Upper Valley since his death.The Boston Cane was presented to Alberta when she turned 100 in September 2021. The cane represents the oldest resident of Lebanon NH and was founded in 1909. David Muzzy was instrumental in organizing the event and presented the cane and certificate to Alberta.Alberta is survived by her step-son, Tim (Carol) Elder and their two sons, Jared (Daisy) and Bradford (Miguel). Viewing will be held at St. Denis Catholic Church (Hanover NH) at 9:30 with Mass to begin at 10:00. Committal prayers to follow at Pine Knoll Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Alberta's family requests donations be made in her memory to the Capital Campaign fund at St. Denis Catholic Church, 8 Sanborn Road, Hanover NH 03755. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ricker Funeral Home.
