Alan W. Derhodes

January 23, 1945 March 14, 2026

Blacklick, OH

Alan W. “Wolford” DeRhodes, 81, of Blacklick, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Salem, Ohio, on January 23, 1945, to Harold and Helen (Heestand) DeRhodes, Alan carried a quiet pride in his rare birthdate, often sharing it with a smile as “12345.”

He retired from the Lorillard Tobacco Company after more than 30 years of dedicated service. In retirement, his strong work ethic and friendly nature led him to drive the employee shuttle at Port Columbus Airport. He had also served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. Alan bowled in several leagues, took great pride in maintaining his cars—from early Mustangs to a later Audi—and filled his home with beloved pets, including cats named Newport and Bubba, and most recently a cherished Yorkie named Rhett Butler.

Above all, Alan cherished his family. He often said he was the lucky one for marrying into a household of women—his wife Tammy and daughters Brittany, Courtney, and Devon—whom he loved with unmatched humility and kindness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Helen; his brother, Raoul; and his daughter, Courtney.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy; daughters Brittany Bulger and Devon Brown (Alex); sister-in-law and best friend Deb McCorkle; sister Sherri; grandchildren Sean Bulger, Caleb Bulger, Lilly Miller, and Camden McCandless; and many loving family members and friends. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.
