Alan Stolfus

St. Joseph, MO

On Friday, March 13, 2026, Alan K Stolfus passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving wife of 35 years, Valyne Pochop, and their children, Julia, Adam and Emily (Lucas). Alan was born on October 20, 1962, to Dr. Ted and Dora Stolfus in Tyndall, South Dakota. He was raised in Bonner Springs, Kansas. A proud K-State Wildcat, Alan graduated in 1984 with a degree in journalism. Alan's love for words allowed him to work more than forty years between the Harris News Service and Rolling Hills Library. Alan began his greatest adventure on April 20, 1990, when he married Valyne. A dedicated father, Alan found great joy in raising his three children. Alan brought constant joy and laughter to his family and friends. His heart for service made him a committed member of the St. Joseph Youth Soccer Association as a coach and board member. He made many trips to serve and visit friends on Pine Ridge Reservation with Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Alan leaves behind a legacy of love and service. He will be deeply missed. Alan was preceded in death by his mother Dora (Maag) Stolfus and extended family members. Alan is survived by father Ted, wife Valyne, children Emily (Lucas) Gorentz, Adam Stolfus and Julia Stolfus, sisters Kecia Talbot and Kyla (Brian) Rosenberger, niece Amelia Rosenberger and nephew Andrew Rosenberger. Family, friends and community members are invited to gather for a celebration of Alan's life on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Knights of Columbus Hall #571 (4520 Mitchell Avenue, St. Joseph, MO) from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorial donations to the St. Joseph Youth Soccer Association and Friends of the Rolling Hills Library are welcomed.
