Alan Max Etson, age 84, of Beaver Creek Township, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 9, 2026.
Born in Flint, Michigan on July 6, 1941 to Jack and Madeline (Bush) Etson, Alan served for many years in the United States National Guard. He took great pride in his military service and was a familiar face at the American Legion Post 106 in Grayling, where he enjoyed sharing stories and the easy camaraderie with fellow veterans.
Alan was known for his sharp skill at the pool table and his playful sense of humor. In his younger years he bowled at the Eagles, volunteered whenever he could, and remained a lifetime gold star member of the organization. He was also deeply proud of having donated 50 gallons of blood over his lifetime.
He is survived by his sons, William M. (Pam) Etson of Flint and David A. Etson of Grayling; step-daughter, Julie Chapman of Corunna; grandchildren, Anthony Etson, Olivia Urlacher, Jack Etson, and Rosie Etson; brother, Howard R. Etson; and many supportive comrades from the Legion and the military. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Etson and his parents.
