July 29, 1933— March 12, 2026
Wiota, IA
Alan LeRoy Williamson, 92, of Wiota, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Atlantic Specialty Care. Born on July 29, 1933, in Benton Township, Cass County, to LeRoy Henry and Clara Louise (Husmann) Williamson, he grew up alongside his older siblings Paul, Marilyn, and Marjorie. He attended country school and graduated from Wiota High School in 1951, where he drove a school bus each morning before attending classes himself.
In 1953, Alan married his high school sweetheart, Marlis Claussen, at the First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. They were the last couple to wed in the old church building. The couple moved to Denver, where they lived and worked for the next fifty years while raising their children, Joetta and James. Alan was a devoted Denver Broncos fan who enjoyed watching all kinds of sports on television.
After Marlis passed away in 2001, Alan returned to the Wiota area. In 2003, he built a new home on an acreage on Fairview Road, situated between his sister-in-law Nadine Williamson and his nephew David Williamson. In retirement, he created a cottage business called “Barnboards by Alan,” crafting wooden items from reclaimed barn boards that he sold at craft shows and at Picker’s Parlor. He was also among the first employees at the Atlantic Wal-Mart, helping to stock the new store.
Alan is survived by his son Jim and wife Nancy Williamson of Westminster, Colorado, his granddaughter Laura and her husband Sean Pigeon of Fort Worth, Texas, and his daughter Joetta Williamson of Denver. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nadine Williamson of Atlantic and many nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marlis, her parents Art and Frieda Claussen, his siblings Paul Williamson, Marilyn (Wally) Hardenbergh, and Marjorie (Chuck Manatt and Ray) Pasco, and his nephew Bob Manatt.
