Alan B. Cook, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on March 7, 2026, in Dayton, Ohio, at the age of 79. Born on July 10, 1946, in Columbus, Ohio, Alan lived a life marked by purpose, devotion, and a quiet passion that touched everyone who knew him.
A graduate of The Ohio State University and the University of Maryland, he built a distinguished career that included dedicated service with the FBI, followed by leadership roles as Vice President of Purchasing for McDonald’s Corporation and at Kay Chemical. His years at McDonald’s held special meaning for him; he took great pride in developing policies, training teams, and traveling the world to help open new stores, leaving a lasting mark on the organization.
Alan was known for his warmth and genuine friendliness. He possessed a quiet strength and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, never meeting a stranger. Above all, he loved his family deeply, taking immense pride in their accomplishments and offering steady support and guidance throughout their lives. He and his beloved wife, Leslie Cook, shared 50 beautiful years of marriage, a partnership remembered fondly by all who knew them.
He is survived by his daughter, Emily Cook; his sons, Brian (Amy) Cook and Andrew (Eileen Blackwell) Cook; his grandchildren, Deyton (Cayla) Cook, Kendall (Erik DeLuca) Cook, Katelyn Cook, and Samantha Blackwell; and his great-grandson, Wout. He is also survived by his brothers, Tim (Paulette) Cook and Larry (Elaine) Cook, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Alan was preceded in death by his wife, Leslie; his parents, Harry and Madeline Cook; and his brother, Gregory (Carol) Cook.
He will be remembered for his lifelong enthusiasm as an Ohio State fan, his love of music—especially the Kingston Trio and the Weavers—his passion for HAM radio, and the many evenings spent playing Euchre with family and friends. His legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family will continue to live on in all who were fortunate to know him.
