Alford), "Pappy," 87, of Oak Harbor, WA, passed away peacefully at home on February 28, 2026, with his daughter Christine at his side.He was born on November 14, 1938, in Dill City, Oklahoma, to Emma Ann (Rouse) and Agie Alford.AJ was the youngest of six siblings. He lost both his father and mother by the time he was 12 years old. He then went to live with his sister Bernice and her husband, Garrett Bewley, in White Deer, Texas. While in high school, he played volleyball, varsity football, basketball, and track. He served as co-captain of the basketball team and was named Basketball King. In 1958 he was listed in Dell Sports Basketball Magazine as one of the top 500 high school basketball stars. He graduated from White Deer High School with the class of 1958.He attended the University of Denver for one year on a basketball scholarship. There he met his lifelong friend Adrian (Ad) Oversier. Because Ad was from California, they decided to head west together and joined the U.S. Army Reserves. After basic training at Fort Ord, AJ was employed at the Jonathan Beach Club in Santa Monica, California. There he met his future wife, Kim Donaldson. Together they had two daughters, Lawri Ann (Flanagan) and Christine Carol (Bressler).In 1962 AJ landed his dream job with Western Airlines, first working as a reservations clerk. He later transferred toinformation systems, where he excelled and became Manager of Data Analysis. He led a team that developed a program for reservations and flight operations and later implemented the same system for Saudi Arabian Airlines in Jeddah.In 1968 he completed the requirements for the Professional Designation in the Technology of Information Processing through UCLA Extension. He later graduated from Pepperdine University with a Bachelor of Science in Administration Science in 1974.AJ first retired to Thailand, where he loved the culture, cuisine, and the variety of buffets. In 2005 he settled in Oak Harbor, Washington, with his daughter Christine, her husband Butch, and their family. In his later years he enjoyed nature walks, playing the guitar, computer programming, and making his famous spaghetti sauce for the family. He was a quiet and humble man and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.AJ is survived by his former wife, two daughters, six grandchildren-Brien (Jamie) Flanagan, Breeana (Brent) Janke,Alexander (Elysia) Bressler, Andrew (Gaby) Bressler, Michael (Frances) Bressler, and Hannah Bressler-and twelvegreat-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings.A Funeral Mass will be held at North American Martyrs Catholic Parish in Edmonds, WA, on March 28, 2026. The rosary will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:30 a.m.The Rite of Committal will follow at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, WATo plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
