Adrian “Adie” Gartner, 81, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026. Born on April 11, 1944, in Evanston, Illinois, to Walter and Alles Dowey, Adie grew up in Skokie as the middle child in a close-knit family. She shared a lifelong bond with her older sister, Pat, and younger brother, Jim, with whom she spent much of her childhood.
Adie attended St. Peter’s Elementary School and St. Scholastica High School before earning a bachelor’s degree in teaching from DePaul University. She began her professional life as a teacher but soon found her natural gifts led her into sales, where her ability to connect with people brought her success and satisfaction.
Adie remained active throughout her life, walking nearly three miles each day, playing golf, and enjoying the outdoors. She also cherished travel, finding particular delight in journeys to Europe and Alaska, where she embraced both the beauty and adventure those places offered.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Julie (Bob) Miller; grandchildren, Jack and Grace Miller; brother, Jim (Joy) Dowey; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Adie was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Nancy Hines, and her sister Pat Dowey.
