Belfast, ME
Ada L. Gordon, 93, of Belfast, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, Maine. Born on August 20, 1932, in Belfast, she was the daughter of Everett and Erna (Plummer) Gilmore. She spent her childhood on the family farm on Bowen Road in Searsport, surrounded by her parents, grandfather, eight siblings, and a cousin, where they raised vegetables, animals, fruit trees, and bees.
Ada graduated with the Searsport High School Class of 1951, one of only twelve students. She delivered the Honor Essay at commencement, sharing the stage with her older brother Rodney, who was the Valedictorian. In 1952 she married her classmate Charles Gordon, and together they raised three daughters in Belfast. She worked at a local insurance company before beginning a 44-year career at Penobscot Frozen Foods, where she served as secretary and was often the welcoming voice on the telephone and the first person visitors met.
Ada cherished time with her family, especially recent moments spent with her twin great-grandsons. She loved simple pleasures such as leisurely drives through the Maine countryside in search of scenic views, a good lobster roll, or ice cream.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Gordon (Hugh McLean) of Belfast, Donna Gordon (Mike Ashey) of Belfast, and Twila Gordon Knapp (Dana) of Gray; five grandchildren, Matthew Gordon Olson (Dr. Diana Soto-Olson) of New Orleans, Louisiana, Heather Gordon of Bangor, Lynn Ashey Merek (Wade) of Tennessee, Zachery Knapp (Terri-Lynn) of Poland, and Anna Knapp Whitney (Justin) of Gray; and ten great-grandchildren, Remi, Dorian, Torren, Tice, Riley, Conner, Weston, Maxwell, Luke, and Levi. She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Ariah. She is also survived by her sisters Maxine Seekins of Belfast and Sharon Lamb of Winslow, sister-in-law Cathy Gilmore of Belfast, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Rodney, Everett Jr., Leonard, Kenneth, and Paul, and her sister Ruth Hamm.
