Known to many as Abe, he lived a life marked by deep faith, curiosity, generosity, and a quiet but powerful devotion to the people he loved.Born on August 19, 1947, in Corpus Christi, Texas, Abel was the son of Lee Orville Collins and Aurora Zoila Trevino. From an early age, he displayed a sharp intellect and a natural instinct to explore, understand, and improve the world around him - qualities that would shape both his professional career and his personal life.Abel pursued his education at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science in June 1972. His love for analytical thinking and engineering later led him to Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he completed a Master of Engineering degree in December 1981.Abel's professional career reflected both brilliance and versatility. He began his career at Conoco Oil Company in May 1972 as a software engineer. From November 1977 to August 1992, he worked for Mobil Exploration and Producing, where he held a wide range of roles including software engineer, field reservoir engineer, computer applications supervisor, reservoir simulation consultant, and international consultant. His work took him to Mobil offices in Europe and Africa, ending with a three year relocation to Stavanger, Norway - an experience he deeply valued and spoke of often.Abel was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Orville Collins and Aurora Zoila Trevino, and by his sisters Rose Cortez and Jaime Kinworthy.He is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Collins; his children Jason, Benjamin, and Kelly Collins; his step children Kendrick and Eric Hardgrave; his grandchildren Lauren Harry, and Katie Hardgrave; his two great grandchildren Azula and Ezra; his sisters Aurora Salinas and Alice Garcia; his five nephews Robert Rosales, Marcus Olivarez, Armando Garcia, Alonzo Garcia, and Israel Garcia; and many extended family members and dear friends.Abel Arnold Collins will be remembered for his unwavering faith, brilliant mind, generous heart, and the steady, reassuring way he made others feel capable, valued, and understood. His life reflected the spirit of his favorite Bible verse, Psalm 103 - a life marked by gratitude, compassion, humility, and trust in God's enduring mercy.
