A. Bruce Swenson, 85, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026.Bruce was born in Rockford, Illinois. As a young boy, he courageously battled and overcame polio, an experience that helped shape his life.He graduated from East High School, where he met the love of his life, Nancy. He served as president of his senior class and was a standout athlete. Bruce starred in golf, basketball and football throughout his high school years.Bruce was an exceptional golfer and a lifelong fan of the game. Over the years he earned multiple club championships and won the Rockford Boys' City Championship.Bruce and Nancy moved to Louisville, Kentucky and started a business originally called Swenson & Associates. It became Swenson & Swenson in 1986 when their son Shane joined. Bruce played a key role in running the company. Every so often he played hooky to spend an afternoon at Churchill Downs and enjoy the thrill of the races.He was a ferocious fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, following the basketball team passionately and never missing a game. He often shared his enthusiasm with fellow fans on message boards.Known for his kindness and quiet strength, Bruce was a true gentleman in every sense of the word. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, thoughtfulness and deep love for his family.Bruce was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy "Turtle" Swenson; and his parents, Arnold and Gladys Swenson.He is survived by his daughter Shelli (Jonathan) West of Green Cove Springs, Florida; his son Shane (Laura) Swenson of Ponte Vedra, Florida; his granddaughter Lindsi (Nick) Dreger; his grandsons Logan (Allison) Swenson, Lucas Swenson, Garrett (gf Leighann) West, and Gage West; his siblings Bonnie Nelson, Brad (Sandee) Swenson, and Belinda Farrell; and his great-grandchildren Riley, Charli, Rory, Nash, and Nolan.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Tee – North Florida or Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
